971 MENU - submit

971 MENU reads year-round, and we are pleased to consider well-crafted, unpublished work submitted by any author (if it was posted to a blog, it is considered to have been published). We post five selections in each issue.

Surprise and delight. If it isn't interesting, it isn't anything.

Be serious, funny, real, clear, sharp, smooth. Don't go on and on. Remember that Chris Rock bit about words that cost $5,000 apiece. He said bullets--pretend he said words.

Tension. Character. Intelligent and sensitive. Reveal, causing readers to vibrate with thoughts and feelings. Stories resonate with readers. Ding.

Send us a story. We love stories. We eat them up.We accept all sizes and shapes. They can be fiction or nonfiction.

We occasionally publish things which are not stories, but not on purpose. These things are painstakingly-wrought and interesting.
